  A Typical Day At St Matthews Playgroup

Children arrive with their parent or carer ready for the start of the session. They spend an enjoyable hour or so playing with their friends and choosing the activities to play with;

  • Splashing in the water tray
  • Playing the sand
  • Creating in the craft and painting area
  • Building with the construction toys
  • Creating scenarios with the small world activities
  • Dressing up or sitting quietly in the book corner

Outside, on a dry day, there is the well supervised garden area to investigate as well as more activities to play with.

After tidy up time we have a small or large group activity followed by hand washing and a sociable snack.

Outside we have a variety of additional activities for the children to enjoy - bikes, scooters, push chairs, ball games, skipping or back inside the children join in with singing songs and rhymes, sometimes we use the musical instruments or take part in circle and action songs, The children may have an adult read story, Then for the rising 3 group it's time to go home.

Pre-schooler, it will be time to wash our hands and tuck in to your scrummy packed lunch.

Once the Children have finished lunch, the children are given several choices of activities (usually of a quieter nature for those full tummies), then the children may have the option of a walk to one of the many lovely places to visit such as victory park, the canal or maybe a trip to the shops (weather permitting), or activities fitting into to our topic will be set up.

The children usually have a group activity before greeting the parents or carers for home time.
